From the Tidewater News:
Ninety-two youngsters from the Franklin
and Southampton County area, members of the Knights of Pythagoras youth Group, recently traveled to Norfolk with their Franklin
Star Lodge #288 chaperones to see a Norfolk Tides game. The
trip was part the Prince Hall Grand Lodge's Youth Day celebration, which uplifts and encourages young people.
"Upon arriving at the park, the group was greeted
by the cool breeze blowing off the sound, carrying the smell of hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn and the shouts of "play ball,'"
wrote Woodrow Wilson, the assistant state director for Franklin Star Lodge #288. The kids watched the Tides beat the visiting Durham Bulls, 4-3. "This was my first game, and
the experience was awesome," Jessica Scott said.
Franklin Star Lodge #288, with assistance from Walgreens, provided black T-shirts with "Prince
Hall Youth Day" emblazoned on the front for the kids.
"Hats off to Prince Hall Grand Lodge and the Knights of Pythagoras," Minister Chris
Lawrence said.
Wilson said special
thanks goes out to Brother Derrick Mallory, Sister Arleathea Peck and Sister Barbara Reid for their help with the event.
